Integrative Approach to Mental Health

An integrative approach brings together the biological (prescribed medications and non-prescription botanicals), the psychological (psychotherapy, mindfulness, and a trauma-centered approach), and the lifestyle (nutritional medicine and reclaiming attention from distractions, the role of physical activity, body relaxation practice, and more) to create a plan that will target mind/body balance. I collaborate with your other clinician(s) to ensure a cohesive plan which includes:

  • Diagnostic Precision

  • Judicious Medication Management

  • Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Approach

  • Evaluating the Role of Nutrition

  • Complementary tools like lifestyle interventions

  • Evidence-informed nutraceuticals & botanicals

Interpersonal trauma, family estrangement and eating disorder experience

  • Mood Disorders (depression, premenstrual dysphoria)

  • Anxiety Disorders

  • Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

  • Eating Disorders

  • Life Transitions and Relationships

  • Complex Grief

  • Self-Worth/Self-Esteem issues

The modern world is rife with sources of emotional suffering, burn-out, mental overstimulation, and over-exertion. These challenges have the potential to thwart our attempts towards awareness, confidence, equanimity and connection to community. But hope is within reach. I believe in the healing potential of the therapeutic space whether it be through the use of medications, psychotherapy or a combination of both. I treat

Services

  • In our first session, I will start by asking open ended questions about what kind of treatments and interventions you are open to and what brought you to seek treatment at this particular time. After getting a sense of what has been challenging, I will ask more directed questions about specific symptoms, current stressors, treatment history, family history, childhood environment and your current support system.

  • Medication can be an effective part of the treatment of many mental health conditions. During these regular visits, I will review the benefits and side effects of your medication and adjust as needed. Counseling and psychotherapy may also be recommended depending on your needs.

  • During these visits, I will typically focus on your current concerns, working towards identified treatment goals, and utilizing therapeutic techniques to facilitate change. You are invited to process your emotions, and reflect on the present moment to foster self-awareness, self-acceptance, self-compassion and emotional repair.

  • I offer one time second opinion consultations where we will discuss your current symptoms and functioning, review your past history, and create a comprehensive treatment plan founded upon the three pillars of mental health treatment - biological interventions, psychological approaches, and lifestyle changes. After the session, I will provide a detailed letter with treatment recommendations to your primary clinician.

 FAQs

  • Integrative Psychiatry is an approach which focuses on wellness rather than just illness. It means looking at the whole person and the context of their lives from the biological, genetic, to the psychological, social, and lifestyle factors. Holistic treatment can include medication, botanicals and supplements, psychotherapy, mindfulness approaches, nutrition recommendations, physical activity, sleep interventions, acupuncture, massage, and more.

  • At this time, I do not accept any insurance plans.

  • At this time, I do not offer in-person appointments. During our brief intial conversation, we can explore if a virtual practice is the right fit for your needs.

“The most rewarding aspect of being a psychiatrist is witnessing a patient’s perspective change from one of self-criticism, dissatisfaction, and powerlessness to one of self-compassion, appreciation and regard for the person that they have become.  ”
